CHATTRAGRAM,(BSS)- Despite being a comfortable position taking first innings lead, Bangladesh collapsed in the second innings as they finished the day with 55 for 5 against visiting West Indies in the first Test of the two-match series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Friday.Taking 78 runs first innings lead, after dismissing West Indies at 246,Bangladesh started their second innings in the afternoon and dramatically collapsed as the host lost wickets of Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, first innings centurion Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan and Mohammad Mithun in a quick succession.
Bangladesh are now took 133 runs overall lead after the second day’s play with five wickets in hand with wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim’s 11 and Mehidy Hasan’s 0 on the crease as the stumps were drawn for the day.
Roston Chase and Jomel Warrican shared two wickets conceding 16 and 22 runs respectively.But it was the day of debutant Nayeem Hasan, who took himself in a new heights achieving world record with his five-wicket haul on the second day as the Tigers dismissed West Indies in their first innings at 246.
Taijul launched early inroad on West Indies innings as he trapped Kieran Powell in front of the stumps as Bangladesh made the first break though of the day in the 11th over.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan then sent back to Shai Hope making him clean bowled while Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite gave a catch to Soumya Sarkar at slip in the same over, leaving West Indies in trouble.
Bangladesh went to the second session with an upper hand picking up three more wickets as West Indies added 133 runs and still trailed by 137 runs with four wickets in hand in reply to a Bangladesh first innings total of 324.
Youngster Nayeem Hasan bagged his maiden Test wicket removing Roston Chase for 31. He then rattled West Indies batting line up again taking his second Test wicket with the scalp of Sunil Ambris for 19 as West Indies lost their
fifth wicket.
Mehidy Hasan Miraj joined the party as he sent back to danger man Shimron Hetmyer for 63, leaving West Indies in a deep trouble.Skipper Shakib Al Hasan then sent back to Shai Hope making him clean bowled while Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite gave a catch to Soumya Sarkar at slip in the same over.
The visitors, however, recovered from the loss of wickets after lunch as Shimron Hetmyer struck a fighting 50 to take Windies past 150-run mark. The left-hander dealt in boundaries, hitting four sixes and five fours as he took
on the Tigers spinners during his 47-ball 63-run knock.
Hetmyer and his partner at the other end Shane Dowrich combined well 92-runsixth-defence stand. Shane Dowrich also composed unbeaten 63-run off 101-ball laced with two boundaries and three over boundaries.
Nayeem Hasan finished his spell with an impressive figure of 14-2-61-5 while Shakib Al Hasan claimed 3 for 43. Earlier in the morning, Bangladesh dismissed their first innings at 324 adding only nine runs with their overnight total of 315 losing the remaining two wickets.
Jomel Warrican, who took two wickets on the first day, claimed two more wickets on the second day to finish his spells with 4 for 62 runs while Shannon Gabriel also captured 4 for 70 runs.BSS
