Titumir boys attack BRAC varsity

Students of Government Titumir College went on the rampage at BRAC University in Dhaka’s Mohakhali on Monday, damaging at least two vehicles.
BRAC University students took to the street protesting the attack, halting traffic on one of Dhaka’s busiest streets for over an hour, said Officer-in-Charge of the Banani Police Station Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain.
Trouble began when a female student of BRAC University slapped a Titumir College student for apparently teasing her, said Sub-Inspector Harunur Rashid of Banani Police Station, quoting students.“Titumir College students attacked the university after learning about the incident,” said the police officer.
The students attacked one of the university buildings, smashing the front office and damaging two vehicles, said Adnan Mostofa, a seventh semester student of the Economics department of the private university.
BRAC University students chased away the attackers before taking to the streets to protest the attack around 1.30pm.
They cleared the road at 3pm after police assured them of action against the attackers, said OC Mahbub Hossain.
Jumana Jesmine, a second year student of the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department of BRAC University, said: “The Titumir College students often sexually harass us. As a result, we feel insecure.”
Pro-government student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Titumir College unit Convener Kazi Mizarul Islam Dollar, however, said that none of the college students was involved in the incident.
“Outsiders might have attacked BRAC University and claimed to be Titumir College students,” he said.
He also claimed that none of the Titumir College students tease the female students of the private university. – bdnews24.com
