A Jubo Dal leader, who was beaten up allegedly by some Jubo League and Chhatra League cadres one week ago, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Mukta Sheikh, 32, son of late Ibad Ali Sheikh of Lahiripara union parishad and also organising secretary of Jubo Dal’s Laripara union unit under Kachua upazila.Local people said a group of 8-10 Jubo League and Chhatra League activists, led by Babu, son of Kachua upazila chairman and Awami League’s upazila unit vice president Mahfuzur Rahman, picked up Mukta from his father-in-law’s residence at Charkathi village around 8am on March 11.
The miscreants took Mukta to a grave near Signboard Bazar area and beat him severely.
Later, local people took the injured to the residence of the UP chairman from where he was taken to Kachua Upazila Health Complex.
As his condition deteriorated, police shifted him Khulna Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
The victims family members alleged that Kachua upazila chairman Mahfuzur Rahman and his son Babu’s men killed him.
Contacted, Mahfuzur Rahman said Mukta was known to be a drug addict and denied the allegation of his son’s involvement in the beating of Mukta on March 11. – UNB
