Traders demand retention of ‘Package Vat’

Businessmen staged a one-hour human chain programme across the country on Monday demanding retention of ‘Package Vat’ in the new VAT (value added tax) law which is scheduled to come into effect on 1 July next.

Traders in Old Dhaka formed a human chain keeping their business establishments shut from 12 pm-1 pm.Earlier, Bebosayi Oikya Forum (United Forum of Businesses), a platform of business leaders, announced the programme on Sunday. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

Motaleb, secretary general of Bebosayi Oikya Forum, said “We have organised the human chain programme demanding restoration of ‘Package Vat’ over 250 Bebosayi organizations across the country are under the forum and if the government does not take any steps we will announce greater programme”.

The shop owners across the country have long been protesting the proposal in the upcoming budget to withdraw the ‘Package VAT’ system.
