Train derails at Bhuapur, snaps Dhaka’s rail link with north

Dhaka, Apr 6 – Dhaka’s train communication with the country’s northern region remained suspended as three bogies and the locomotive of a train derailed near Bangabandhu Bridge at Pathailkandi in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail early Thursday.Railway sources said the locomotive along with three compartments of Lalmonirhat-bound ‘Lalmoni Express’ from Dhaka veered off the track around 3 am, halting the train communications of Dhaka with the northern region.
Some 10 people of the train were slightly injured in the incident, said Asabur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station.
A relief train left Dhaka for the spot to salvage the bogies, the OC said. – UNB
