Dhaka – ‘Tree Man’ Abul Bajandar, who was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with a rare skin disease, underwent another surgery on his left hand on Saturday, a month after a ‘successful’ surgery on his right hand.
Burn and Plastic Surgery head Prof M Abul Kalam told reporters that a nine-member medical team, led by him, conducted the operation from 11 am to 1pm on all the five fingers of his left hand separately without any complications.
Prof Kalam said his condition is now better than before.
Another similar operation will be performed on other parts of his body three or four weeks after this second surgery, he said.
Prof Kalam hoped the wart-like lesions growing on his hands and feet will be removed fully through such surgeries gradually.
Chief Coordinator of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery Dr Samanta Lal Sen was, among others, present during the operation.
Talking to UNB, Dr Samanta Lal Sen said they completed the surgery in relatively shorter time due to experience they gathered from the first operation on his right hand.
His right hand’s condition has improved by 80 percent, Dr Samanta Lal Sen said.
Responding to a question, Samanta Lal said they might get within a month the test results of blood, tissue and saliva samples of Abul Bajandar, which were sent to a molecular microbiologist in the United States for diagnosis.
On February 20, the 26-year-old young man underwent a ‘successful’ surgery on all the five fingers of his right hand. Later, the doctors completed the dressing of his hand thrice effectively.
Dubbed as a Tree Man because of wart-like lesions growing on his hands and feet, Abul Bajandar, hailing from Paikgachha in Khulna, is the 3rd such patient in the world to be suffering from a rare Dermo Epidermal Dysplasia disease for the last 15 years.
On January 30, Bajandar, a van driver by profession, was admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of the DMCH for treatment of at least 10 kilogrammes of wart-like lesions growing on his hands and feet. – UNB
