Truck slides into ditch in Southeast Bangladesh hills killing 7 labourers

Bandarban – Seven labourers were killed and eight others injured as a truck slewed sideways into a roadside ditch for obscure visibility caused by dense fog at Yeangcha in Lama Upazila on Thursday morning.The deceased were identified as Mohammad Rakib,45, Mohammad Rajib,40, Mohammad Rabin,35, Aftab Hossain,55, Mohammad Amzad,42, and Alek Hossain,21– residents of Ishwardi upazila in Pabna– and Hasan Ali,45, a resident of Satkhira district.
Witnesses said a truck carrying materials of a cell phone tower from Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar fell into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving four day labourers on it dead on the spot and 11 others, also labourers, injured.
Of the 11 injured, three died on way to a nearby hospital.
The remaining injured labourers were admitted to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital from where two of them were shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Officer-in-charge of Lama Police Station Iqbal Hossain confirmed the incident.-UNB
