Two including Sholakia attacker Shafiul killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab

Dhaka – Two persons were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh on Thursday night. They included an accused in a case over a terrorist attack on police near the Sholakia Eid congregation ground in Kishoreganj district on July 7 last.

Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station, said the two militants, including Shafiul Islam alias Saiful Islam, 22, son of Abdul Hai of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur district, were being taken to Kishoreganj by a team of Rab-14 for investigation at night.
As they reached Chandipasha, a group of miscreants hurled bombs and opened fire on the Rab team to snatch the accused, forcing the elite force to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
Shafiul and the other militants were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Three Rab members were also injured in the gunfight. Rab seized two motorcycles, some firearms and bullets from the spot.
Earlier on July 7, the Eid day, three people, including two policemen, were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb attack coupled with an exchange of gunfire after terrorists attacked a temporary police check post near Sholakia Eidgah in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj.
Besides, Abir Rahman, a student of North South University and an alleged militant, was killed in the gunfight with police while Saiful arrested from the scene. – UNB
