Two more testify against DIG Mizan, 3 others in graft case

Two more witnesses including Barisal’s Mehediganj Municipality Mayor Kamal Uddin Khan testified in a case filed against sacked Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman and three others. Later, Judge Al Asad Md Asifuzzaman of the Sixth Special Judge Court of Dhaka fixed March 23 to record the depositions of other witnesses.
Dutch-Bangla Bank’s Elephant Road branch manager Ariful Haque was the other witness who testified on Tuesday. Of the 33 witnesses, 8 testified so far.
Accused Mizan and his nephew Mahmudul Hasan were produced in the court from the jail.
Other accused people are: Mizan’s wife Sohelia Anar Ratna and his younger brother Mahbubur Rahman and they are on the run.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against the accused for concealing wealth worth Tk three crore seven lakh and amassing Tk three crore 28 lakh illegally.
Mizan was arrested in the case on July 1, last year and the following day he produced in the Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka. Judge KM Imrul Kayesh sent him to the jail rejecting his bail petition.
During investigation of the case, it has been learnt that Mizan gave ACC Officer Enamul Basir Tk 40 lakh as bribe.
Later, another case was lodged in the court on the charge of bribe. This case was transferred to Special Judge Court -4 of Dhaka for trial.
