Two suspected ‘terrorists’ killed in city ‘shootout’

Two suspected terrorists were killed during a gunfight with police in the city’s Jatrabari area on Saturday afternoon.  The deceased were identified as Salahuddin, 28, and his cohort Jewel, 27.Tipped off that a clandestine meeting of a terrorist gang was in progress there, several teams from Jatrabari Police Station raided Sutirkhalpar area at about 5:30 pm.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the ‘gangsters’ fired gunshots at the policemen forcing them to fire back which triggered the gunfight.
After a brief exchange of fire, the gangsters fled the scene.Later, police detained Salahuddin and Jewel with bullet wounds, and recovered one revolver, one pistol, one bullet and two magazines from the spot.
The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Salahuddin was wanted in eight cases, including that of four murders, said Ilias Sharif, Deputy Commissioner (Wari Division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Five policemen, including sub-inspector Pradip, were injured in the incident, the DC said.   – UNB
