U-21 Hockey: Bangladesh play out 2-2 draw against Oman

Dhaka – Bangladesh U-21 hockey team, now preparing for next year’s Junior Asia Cup in Dhaka, played out a 2-2 draw against touring Oman U-21 hockey team in their 2nd match of the Walton five-match practice series at the Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium here on Wednesday.

Mahbub Hossain and Sohanur Rahman Sabuj scored one goal each for hosts Bangladesh while Rashad Al-Fazari scored two goals for Oman.

Bangladesh Youth team started the series outplaying Oman by 5-1 goals in the opening match at the same venue on Tuesday.

In the remaining matches, they will play Oman on Friday (Oct 11) at 4 pm, on Saturday (Oct 12) at 6 pm and on Tuesday (Oct 15) at 4 pm.

In the day’s match, Mahbub Hossain opened account for Bangladesh by a field goal (1-0) in the 31st minute but just in a span of seven minutes (34th and 41st minutes) Rashad Al-Fazari put touring Oman team ahead scoring twice (1-2).

Hosts Bangladesh continued their attack and bagged its fruit while Sohanur Rahman Sabuj leveled the margin the 43rd minute (2-2).

Earlier, Oman Under-21 Hockey team arrived in the capital on Monday from Pakistan after playing four preparatory matches there responding to invitation of Bangladesh Hockey Federation as part of Bangladesh team’s preparation for the next year’s Junior Asia Cup in Dhaka, a qualifying meet for the Junior Hockey World Cup.

Bangladesh Hockey Federation earlier decided to host Junior Asia Cup Hockey 2020 in June and Asian Champions Trophy in October next year, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.UNB
