Train derails in Moulvibazar injuring 24 – line missing in Joypurhat

At least 25 passengers have been injured as the engine and 6 bogies of the Chittagong bound Udayan inter-city train from Sylhet derailed in Moulvibazar on Wednesday midnight.
According to some sources fish plates of the rail track were missing. The exact cause of the accident is being ascertained, the sources said.
The accident occurred at Chakshalon between Chilgaon and Manu railway stations under Kulaura subdistrict. Rail link of Sylhet with the rest of the country has remained suspended since 3 am last night.Sources said, relief train is being sent from Akhaura junction to rescue the engine and the bogies of the train. Restoration of the rail line might not be posible untill late Thursday afternoon, sources said.

Dhaka-Rajshahi train communication has been suspended since Thursday morning as 36 feet of rail line near the Udi-Madhpur bridge in Joypurhat has been found missing. The authorities suspect that it might be the work of pro-blockade activists of the Bnp-led 20-party alliance.
The information about removal of rail line was communicated to the nearby railway stations. Plying of trains on the Dhaka-Rajshahi route was suspended soon after. A number of trains plying in the route have been stranded as a result, according to reports reaching Dhaka.
Police rushed to the spot after the receipt of the information. Railway administration has started repairing the line, the sources said. – News Desk
