BD Peacekeepers earn Tk 5085.42cr since 2011 till date

Bangladesh earned Tk 5085.42 crore as of June 2013 since January 2011 from the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni told Parliament on Sunday. Of the total earnings, around Tk 1,292.52 crore came in 2011, Tk 2,159.19 crore in 2012 and Tk 1,633.71 in 2013 (as of June), she said, answering a tabled question of Amina Ahmed (Women Seat-23).
A total of 8,843 Bangladeshi are engaged in the UN peacekeeping missions of eight countries, Dipu Monir said.
She informed the House that the highest 2,953 Bangladesh peacekeepers are deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Another 2,543 peacekeepers are engaged in the UN Operation in Côte d’ Ivoire (UNOCI); 1,408 in the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL); 327 in the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL); 303 in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS); 962 in the African Union/UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID); 319 in Haiti, 327 in Lebanon, and 28 peacekeepers in the Western Sahara, she said.
