UN to mediate in BD politics to resolve crisis

New York: United Nations (UN) is set to act as a go-between between
the government and the opposition of Bangladesh during the 68th United
Nations General Assembly.
Confirming the matter, an UN source said that UN Under Secretary
General of Political affairs General Jeffrey Feltman is working in
consideration of the matter.
In view of this, UN general secretary Ban-Ki Moon might hold meeting
with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, sources added.

UN sources further said that the UN would try to act as a mediator to
resolve the ongoing political impasse in Bangladesh as they want to
see a full participatory election.

UN invited the Opposition BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to participate
in the upcoming UNGA. But she informed her inability to join the
meeting and promised to send to two representatives there.

UN planned to arrange a trilateral meeting in the presence of the
opposition leader.

Sources confirmed that UN wants to see a full participatory election
