Rangamati, Feb 24 (UNB): A Union Parishad member was gunned down by some miscreants in Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati district on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Samar Bikash Chakma, a member of Rupkari Union Parishad.
Quoting witnesses, officer-in-charge of Baghaichhari Police Station Anwar Hossain said a group of miscreants swooped on the Baghaichhari Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) around 12:30 pm and opened fire on Samar Bikash while he was sitting there, leaving him dead on the spot.
Samar Bikash is a supporter of the PCJSS (MN Larma) group.
However, the motive behind the killing could not be known yet.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital morgue.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the incident.
