Upazila election for democracy!

Upazila Election- third phase was not held properly as stated by Election Working Group (EWG), a non-government body comprising 27 organisations.
Around 2500 observers were recruited in the 81 upazilas. They have found so many anomalies in the election.Voters of 38 upazilas were threatened, in 34 upazilas there was campaigning during the prohibited time, voters of 10 upazilas were obstructed from casting their votes, poling agents in 77 centres were driven out from the centres, observers in 7 upazilas could not enter 8 centres and activities of observers at 90 centres in 49 upazilas were hindered by preventing them from being present during counting of votes, vote counting was started before the end the voting time.
It is of great concern that during the last few years particularly during the care taker governments’ time people were happy to cast their votes and people did not feel threatened by any quarters. But now
the situation has turned different, vote rigging is common.
In the mean time, AL has come to power through a one sided election which is not healthy for democracy and many of the leaders of opposition have been burdened with excessive cases and many are jail facing cases.
The pertinent question is whether democracy is wanting a path to escape from Bangladesh!
