During the 3rd century, St. Valentine, a catholic priest was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Empire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius, and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed “Your Valentine” as a farewell.
Another story says that Valentine fell in love with the jailer’s daughter in confinement. Before his death the last words of a letter to his beloved were: “From your Valentine”.
Whatever the origin is, Valentine’s Day has now become a day not only for love birds, but also a day to spread love to family and friends.

While a question may rise that, why observe love for only one day among 365 ones, a counter question may come that why not celebrate at least one day more specially by the name of love?
Undoubtedly, today the world needs more love than hatred. A Valentine’s day can be a perfect day to spread words of love and peace. – UNB
