Vandalism in Sirajganj, Gazipur

Opposition activists set fire to trucks in Sirajganj on the first day of the fifth nationwide blockade in recent weeks. At least 20 passengers were injured in Gazipur when a bus crashed into a truck after stones were hurled at it by Opposition activists.Police said two trucks were set to fire on Saturday at Sirajganj’s Kamarkhand Upazila on the Dhaka-Bogra highway near the Bangabandhu Bridge.
Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Police Station OC ATM Aminul Islam told bdnews24.com that police has put out the fire on the trucks which were carrying paddy and bricks.
Locals say Jamaat-e-Islami supporters protested on the Sirajganj-Kazipur road with burning tyres, but fled when the police arrived.
The situation was rather calm in the district headquarters with police, RAB and BGB troopers deployed in the key areas.
“The situation is calm apart from one or two sporadic incidents,” said Sadar Police Station OC Habibul Islam.
Meanwhile, at least 20 passengers were injured on the Dhaka-Tangail highway at Gazipur’s Kaliyakoir Upazila after a collision involving a bus and two trucks.
“I lost control when the blockade campaigners hurled stones,” the driver of the bus Hridoy Mia said.
Kaliyakoir Police Station OC Omar Faruk said the bus heading towards Chandra collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction and then rammed into another truck. – bdnews24.com
