Vehicle held with secret papers

Police have seized a microbus while it was trying to flee with a pile of documents containing maps of roads and bridges in Bangladesh from the high-security Secretariat.Former Finance Ministry official Rustam Ali Hawlader, 65, and the Secretariat’s cleaning staff Md Sohel, 45, were arrested in connection with the incident on Tuesday.
On-duty Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Md Moshiur Rahman, said that, around 1pm, they had signalled a speeding microbus, emerging from the Secretariat, to stop.
But the vehicle jumped the signal and sped away through Gate No. 3.
After a nerve-wracking cat-and-mouse chase, police finally caught up with it near High Court and brought it back to the Secretariat.
“We found documents of various ministries in the microbus,” said Rahman.
He said they included those from the Land, Communications, Railways, and LGRD ministries. Several of them concerned land acquisition by the Land Ministry between 1993 and 2006.
Maps of various roads and the design of the Babubazar bridge were also among them.
The documents were confidential, Rahman said.
“Those detained are being questioned at the Shahbagh Police Station.,” he said.
An on-duty police officer said Rustam Ali had retired three years ago. He had entered the Secretariat with a false identity card on Tuesday, he said.-bdnews24.com
