Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jun on Monday expressed his optimism that the 21st century would be marked by the massive rise of developing countries and the world would be more equal and more prosperous.
He made this comment while unwrapping as the chief guest a book of BNP standing committee member Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman titled “Contemporary Thought” at the National Press Club.
The Chinese Ambassador said his country wants Bangladesh to sustain as a strong and stable country in the globe.
“I strongly believe a stable, prosperous and united Bangladesh is in the fundamental interests of the people and will lead the country to play an even great role both in region and internal affairs,” he observed.The Chinese envoy said the bilateral relation between the two counties is historic and would be strengthened in future.
He said China and Bangladesh are natural friends and natural partners each other, not only because of their glorious history, but also for the common challenges, common interests and common dreams they share in today and the days in nation building.
Li Jun shared that China’s development is a poverty alleviation and modernisation cause with population scale of one billion-plus, has been achieved in peaceful process and it is the rejuvenation of a country with 5,000-year-long civilisation.
He said his country strives for development is a peaceful global environment and promote world peace through self-development.
He called for joining hands and working together to enhance friendly cooperation and happiness for Bangladeshi and Chinese people and the people of whole world.
Bangladesh Sangskritik Academy Foundation organised the function with its president Abdur Rahman Tapon in the chair. Former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Emajudidn Ahmed, writer of the book Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman, former Navy chief Air Vice-Marshal (Retd) AG Mahmud, journalists–Sadek Khan and Sohrab Hossain, president of the National Press Club Kamal Uddin Sabuj, columnist Ehsanul Kabir and owner of Suborna Prokasoni Mahfuzul Haque, among others, also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Emajudidn Ahmed said the policymakers of the country have to prepare and implement the national policies cautiously as Bangladesh is situated in a strategic geographical location.
He said Bangladesh would go ahead if it can prepare its policies independently does not depends on east or west to do it.
Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbub, who wrote the 120-page book, said independence and war of liberation were the great achievement of the country.
He however said that the country could not go far in establishing democracy and humanity.
In his book, the former army chief highlighted the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and China.
He hoped that this book would help enhancing the diplomatic relation between he two countries. – Staff Reporter
