Website launched in USA to secure release of Khaleda Zia

Dhaka, Feb 24 – A website titled khaledakebachao.com has recently been opened by some expatriate Bangladeshis in the USA in a bit to press home the demand to release BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. Some Bangladeshi citizens living in the USA have opened the website urging people to make the demand for the release of the former premier to provide her better treatment. Anyone can make a demand for the release of Khaleda Zia, said BNP chairperson’s media wing officer Shairul Kabir.
He said those who developed the website are not involved in politics. They took the initiative as the health condition of the BNP’s ailing chairperson is deteriorating day by day.
Expatriate Bangladeshis including Zakir H Chowdhury, Mokshed R Bhuiyan, ATM Helalur Rahman, Jahangir Alam Joy, Dr Mohammed Ziaul Haque, among others, developed the site with a slogan ‘Khaleda Zia Needs Emergency Medical Treatment’.
In the website introduction, it is said that this is not a political website and the people involved in it are not associated or affiliated with any political party, organisation or group.
There is an option in the website to sign for a petition making a demand for the release of former premier Khaleda Zia.
The petition would ask the US Congress (House and Senate) and United Nations Human Rights Council to encourage Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to free Khaleda, who is serving a 17-year jail term in two graft cases for over two years.
The website reads that Khaleda is a political prisoner and she needs emergency medical treatment.
Let’s extend our hands to help humanity. Together we can make a difference.
Meanwhile, the High Court on Sunday wanted to know about the present treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now in the prison cell at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment.
The court ordered the BSMMU vice-chancellor to submit a report by 5:00 pm on Wednesday through the registrar general of the Supreme Court and also set Thursday for hearing on Khaleda’s bail petition in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case. – Staff Reporter
