Whipping in class allegedly prompts Comilla schoolgirl’s suicide

Dhaka – A school girl allegedly committed suicide allegedly after being whipped by a teacher at Bharella village in Burichong upazila of Comilla district on Monday night, UNB news Agency reported.The deceased was identified as Tania AKhter, a class VIII student of Bhrella Shah Nuruddin High School and daughter of Shahid Ullah, a resident of the village.
The victim’s mother Josna AKhter alleged that Habibur Rahman, assistant head master of the school, beat Tania mercilessly over a trifling matter at noon.
Returning home, the girl took poison in the evening and fell sick.
She was rushed to a local clinic, and as her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Comilla Medical College Hospital in the evening.
Later, she died on her way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 9pm.
Uttam Kumar Barua, officer-in-charge of Burichong Police Station, said legal actions will be taken if they get complaint against the teacher.
