Withdraw nomination papers: Ershad asks JP candidates

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Sunday said that he had asked his

party’s aspirant candidates to withdraw their nomination papers by
December 13.
He said this while talking to reporters at his Baridhara residence on Monday.
The former President claimed that his party’s ministers could not
tender their resignation despite they tried to do it over the last
three days.
“The prime minister was not available for an appointment and no one
of the Prime Minister’s Office receives their (ministers) resignation
letters,” he said.
He referred that some JP ministers went to PMO on Saturday to submit
their resignation but no one accepted the letters. The ministers also
tried on Sunday and Monday but they were rejected again, he added.
The former President alleged that a smokescreen has been created over
the resignation of his party ministers and state ministers.
Meanwhile, the six JP ministers did not join Monday’s cabinet meeting
at the Secretariat.
Ershad said his party ministers and lone adviser sent their
resignation letters to the prime minister through post on Sunday.
About offering 100 parliamentary seats for JP during a meeting at
Gabobhaban, Ershad said he would not take part even he was offered 100
or 200 seats.
The election is a meaningless and for the time being and the
government is also for time being. It does not matter whether they
offer 100 or 200 seats, he added.
Replying to a question, he said the JP would not be used as ladder to
send any party to power and they would not take part in the poll if
all parties do not take part in it.
About submission of nomination papers, the JP chief said he expected
that the opposition might take part in the poll at the last movement.
Ershad on Tuesday suddenly announced that his party would not take
part in the January 5 election as there is no a congenial environment
for the poll.
A day after the announcement he asked his party’s leaders to quit the
polls-time cabinet and from the post of prime minister’s adviser. –
