Withdraw officers from RAB to save army’s image: BNP

Leaders of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) yesterday demanded withdrawal of army personnel from Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for the sake of protecting the image of army.
“The government should immediately withdraw all army personnel from the RAB. We want the image of army to uphold,” said Dhaka city BNP convenor Sadeque Hossain Khoka while presiding over a protest rally at the National Press Club.He made this comment when top BNP leaders including party chairperson Khaleda Zia were demanding disbandment the elite force for their alleged involvement in seven murders in Narayanganj.

Khoka, also a joint secretary general of BNP, said the RAB was formed comprising members of all law enforcing agencies including the army the image of the elite force is totally being tarnished due to its activities.
He also alleged that conspiracy is going on over the army in the country.
Khoka called upon the party leaders and activists to dislodge the government from power through waging movement.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who addressed the rally as the chief guest, called upon the people to take to the streets to meterialise their demands.
He also asked the leaders and activists of Dhaka city unit of BNP to take to the streets unitedly to dislodge the government from power.
The BNP leader called upon the government to give fresh election as early as possible by understanding the minds of the people. “Otherwise, he warned, the people will force the government to hold election.”
He termed the government claim that it has come to power with peoples mandate as ridiculous matter.
“You want to retain to power for five years by holding a farcical poll. But we do not mind, if you can retain to power not only five years but for 100 years with popular support ,” he added.
As part of the central programme, Dhaka city unit of BNP organised the rally protesting implicating BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in “false cases” and transferring of Khaleda’s case to Alia Madrasha ground.
Fakhrul termed the government as killer of democracy and snatcher of rights and said it took its stance against the people fearing the public wrath. Like the opposition, they do not allow anyone to observe any democratic programme in the streets, he added.
He reiterated that the government turned the entire country into a valley of death and said there is no alternative bit to remove the government.

He alleged that Khaleda has been implicated in false cases in a planned way to keep her from outside of politics.
