Police have recovered body of a woman from Dhaka’s Mirpur area. Her relatives have alleged that she was killed for dowry. Police found 28-year old Sharmin Morshed Maha hanging from the ceiling in a house early on Thursday.Her husband Morshedi Alam Shibli claimed Maha had committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan. The victim’s younger brother Ayaz Sarker said Shibli had been demanding money from his sister since their marriage four years ago.
As Maha refused to take any money from her parents she was tortured physically and mentally, Ayaz alleged. Maha went to her parent’s place in Moghbazar two months ago as she could not bear the torture any longer.
Shibli tricked Maha back to his place on Dec 16, Ayaz said. Ayaz said Maha bore wounds in the face and forehead. There was a black spot in her throat but it did not seem that she had committed suicide, he added.
Police sent the body to the hospital morgue for autopsy, Mirpur Police Station OC Salahuddin Ahmed said. – bdnews24.com
