A number of poor women in the rural and urban areas of the district achieved self-reliant by struggling against poverty and engaged themselves in various income generation activities.
The women have taken short and long-term training on various income-generating programmes from the Department of Youth Development and Women Affairs.They brought revolutionary changes to their life getting assistance or loan from the departments for their small income generation projects.The women also have been playing important role in alleviating poverty and change rural economy through income generation activities during the past few years in the district. Most of them have achieved successes through sewing handloom garments, animal husbandry, rearing cows, goats and poultry birds, homestead gardening, farming fruits, fish and agro-activities.Many of the women have also achieved self-reliance through farming of early variety vegetables and setting up cottage and small industries, participatory social afforestation, microcredit activities and other government and NGO programmes.
