Women’s Hockey: Dhaka Eleven beats Kolkata Warriors 2-0

Dhaka- Bangladesh Women’s Hockey team under the banner of Dhaka Eleven made a historic start in the International Hockey beating Kolkata Warriors, by 2-0 goals in the first of the three-match series at the Maulana Bhashani National Stadium here on Wednesday.This was the first international hockey match for Bangladesh women’s, who earlier played some local hockey matches in 70s and the women’s hockey was stopped from 80s in any level.
After a long gap, Bangladesh Hockey Federation took initiative to restart and nursing the women’s hockey in the country and made a memorable start beating Indian team displaying a better brand of hockey against their mighty opponents.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Abu Saleh Mohammad Ferdous Khan inaugurated the match.
Shimu Aktar put Dhaka Eleven ahead at the ninth minute while Nomita Karmakar of Narail scored the second goal for Dhaka Eleven in 23rd minute.
Touring Kolkata Warriors reached Dhaka on Tuesday evening and will play their 2nd match on Thursday and the 3rd and last match on Saturday against same team at the same venue.
