Dhaka – Asia Cup champions Bangladesh completed their Group A engagements of the 10-nation ICC Women’s World T20with empty hand losing all the matches following their 30-run defeat against South Africa in the last match at Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia Monday morning.
With the day’s frustrating performances, Bangladesh, whoclinched their maiden Asia Cup crown shocking India and Pakistan and emerged champions in World T20 Qualifiers, came back down to earth losing seven consecutive matches following a 0-3 defeat in home series against Pakistan.
Both the semifinals of the meet will be held on Friday (Nov 23) with unbeaten Group B champions India playing Group A runners-up Englandwhile Group B runners-up Australia facing Group A champions West Indies.
The final match will be held on November 25.
In the day’s last group match, Bangladesh invited South Africa to bat first and restricted them for 109 runs for 9 in stipulated 20 overs. Skipper Salma Khatungrabbed three wickets for 20 runs. Spinner KhadizaYul Kubra took two wickets for 18 runs.
M.Kapp (25), L Lee (21), CL Tryon (18), Van Niekerk (17) and Du Preez (14) were the leading scorers for the Proteas.
Chasing a target of 110 runs, Bangladesh were forced to fold their innings at 79 runs for 5 in quota 20 overs despite an unbeaten 34 runs off 40 balls with two fours by number five Rumana Ahmed.
FarganaHoque and Rumana Ahmed batted nearly eight overs in their fourth-wicket stand of 27.
Apart from Rumana, one sdownFarganaHaque was the other notable Bangladeshi batter reaching the double figure scoring 36-ball 19 runs.
This was the same story for Bangladesh in the ongoing world meet as their bowlers strangled South Africa to restrict them for 109 runs, but their batting couldn’t stretch the score past 80 for the fourth time this tournament.
Five South African bowlers-M Daniels, TS Sekhukhune, M Klaas, S Luus and Van Niekerk-one one wicket each conceding 6,12,13,15 and 17 runs respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh Women’s team eliminated from the ICC Women’s World T20 with 3rd successive defeat losing to Sri Lanka by 25 runs last Thursday to remain at bottom of the five-team group with empty hand.
Touring Bangladesh conceded seven-wicket losses against England in a rain-interrupted 2nd match after a humiliating 60-run defeat against hosts West Indies in the opening match.
