Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Haq on Sunday urged the inquiry and investigation officials of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) not to act as persecutor; rather to work in a dignified manner.
Addressing a training programme for inquiry and investigation officers, he suggested the investigation or inquiry officers to present them as the reporting people in a manner which is dignified and which does not shows them as persecutors.The ACC organized the refreshers course titled “Training programme for inquiry and investigation officers” at commission’s head office at Segunbagicha.
The minister observed that if an investigation is conducted properly, there will be no bottleneck so far as the law is concerned.
The ACC will train its 250 officials and discuss the hurdles they face in dealing with the cases and will try to find out their solutions.
Former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque requested the anti graft body’s officers to conduct inquiry or investigation in a manner where law should work as the safeguard and it does not disgrace any people as the article 37 has ensured the safeguard.
On frequent amendments to the ACC law, he said if amendments are made frequently with a law, people would be confused as a single amendment needs changes in other fifty places.
He suggested government to consider the matters seriously prior to make any amendment in any laws.
ACC chairman M Badiuzzaman admitted that the commission is yet to get momentum in achieving success.
“We have achieved so far 40 per cent success in convicting the corruption accused while the majority portions of them get released. We has studied our weak points by analysing many cases and has sorted that out,” he said.
The ACC boss said though all the officials are efficient but some gap always lies in the system and the training has been organized to help officials to deal with the issues.
ACC commissioners—M Shahabuddin and Nasiruddin Ahmed, secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, director general (legal and prosecution) Kamrul Hossain Molla, and Germany Development Co-operation senior advisor Tim Pfannmueller, among others, also spoke on the occasion. – Staff Reporter
