Workers demand budget allocation to introduce rationing in RMG sector

Bangladesh Textile-Garments Workers Federation on Thursday urged the government for budget allocation to bring the readymade garment (RMG) workers under rationing.

At a roundtable discussion on budget for workers at Jatiya Press Club, the Federation also raised the demand to fix the minimum wage of the RMG workers at Tk 16,000 to cope up with the great leap in the prices of essentials commodities over the last couple of years. Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

In his keynote presentation, the Federation’s president Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Ismail also raised the demands to ensure permanent housing facilities against both short- and long-term installments, free healthcare for workers and free education for their children.

Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain, Prof MM Akash of Dhaka University’s Economics Department, Garments Oikya Forum president Moshrefa Mishu, among others, addressed at the programme.
