Workshop landless people’s rights held in Satkhira

A workshop on the rights of the landless was held on June 8, at the
training centre of Uttaran, Tala, Satkhira. Journalists  of Satkhira
and Khulna districts attended the workshop. Presided over by Shahidul
Islam, Director, Uttaran the function was moderated by Adv. Abul Kalam
Azad, Member Secretary of Central Bhumi Committee. Editor Daily
Patrodut, Gourango Nandi presented a key note paper on news reporting
and establishing land rights.
Shahidul Islam stated in the workshop that the landless people should
have access to state owned khasland and khas water bodies for reducing
poverty and attaining MDG goals. 27% of absolute landless have been
identified by Uttaran in Satkhira and Khulna districts.
In his speech Shahidul Islam said that it was the pledge of the
present government to identify the landless and distribute khas land
among them. He also said that khas land distribution can be a useful
tools for meet up the MDG goals. For increasing GDP, we have no
alternative to khas land transfer to landless poor people.
Gourango Nandi presented the key note paper; He stated that how the
reporter will prepare a good report for news media. In his speech he
emphasised that the ethics and values of news reporter. He said that
news reporter can help for establish the rights of the landless people
at the local level greatly.
In the workshop the welcome speech was given by the project
coordinator of APAR, Aminur Rahman Bablu. Journalist Kallyan Banargee,
Journalist Kamrujjaman, Journalist Mizanur Rahman. President of
district bhumi committee Anisur Rahim spoke in the workshop as special
guest. Among others, representative of Shyamnagor, Assashuni,
Kaligonj, Debhata, Tala, Paikgacha and Chucknagor Upazila press club
took part in the discussion.
