World Cup Archery: Roman Shana, Hakim Rubel advance to round of 16

Dhaka – Country’s famed archer Mohammad Roman Shana and Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel on Wednesday advanced to the round of 16 in the men’s recurve singles of Stage-2 of the Archery World Cup 2019 at the Chinese city of Shanghai.
In the day’s elimination round, Roman Shana of Bangladesh beat Ding Yiliang of hosts China by 6-0 sets in the round of 48 and defeated Wijler Steve of Netherlands by 6-2 sets in the round of 24 and will now face Van Den Berg Sjef of Netherlands in the round of 16.

On other hand, another Bangladeshi Mohammad Hakim Ahmed Rubel beat Matheson Finn of New Zealand by 6-2 sets in the round of 48 and defeated Ohi Kazuki of Japan also by 6-2 sets in the round of 24. Rubel will face Lee Seungyun of Korea in the round of 16.

Two other Bangladeshi archers, Imdadul Haque Milan and Mohammad Tamimul Haque -eliminated from men’s recurve singles of the meet.

Milan lost to Huston Patrick of Great Britain by 2-6 sets while Tamimul lost to Tekoniemi Antti of Finland by 3-7sets in the round of 48.

In the women’s recurve singles, Beauty Roy advanced to the round of 24 beating Ghassemi Parmida of Iran by 6-4 sets, but lost to Hayakawa Ren of Japan 3-7 sets to eliminate from the event.

In the men’s recurve team event, Bangladesh team comprises Roman Shana, Tamimul Haque and Hakim Rubel advanced to the round of 8 eliminating Belgium team by 5-4 sets to play the Netherlands in the round of 8.

In the recurve mixed team event, Bangladesh team also reached the round of 8 eliminating Australia by 5-4 sets and will play Chinese Taipei in the round of 8.

In the men’s compound singles, Ashim Kumar Das of Bangladesh lost to Wong Co Wan of Malaysia by 140-142 score while Susmita Bonik lost to Medeleine Ong Xue Li of Singapore by 141-143 score in the women’s compound singles while Ashim Kumar Das and Susmita Bonik lost to Japanese rivals by 137-157 score in the round of 12 of the compound mixed team event.
A 10-member team represents Bangladesh (seven archers and three officials) in Stage-2 of Archery World Cup 2019.
Hakim Ahmed Rubel joined veteran archers Roman Shana, Tamimul Islam, Emdadul Haque Milon and Beauty Roy in the men’s and women’s recurve divisions while Asim Kumar Das and Susmita Bonik in the men’s and women’s compound divisions.
Around 295 archers from 38 countries are taking part in recurve and compound divisions of the seven-day competition in Chinese city of Shanghai.UNB
