World Environment Day observed at Agri Varsity

The World Environment Day  was observed at Bangladesh Agricultural
University(BAU) campus on Wednesday.
The World Environment Day was organized by Department of Environmental
Science of BAU. A seminar on Environment Day held at the conference
hall of BAU while Vice-Chancellor of BAU Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul
Hoque was present as Chief Guest.
The Program was presided over Professor Dr. M. A. Sattar, President of
Organizing Committee of The World Environment Day 2013 while Professor
Dr. Md. Abdul Khaliq Patwary, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture of BAU,
Professor Dr. Subash Chakraborty, Director General of Bangladesh
Fisheries Research Institute(BFRI), Dr Salam, Director-Research  of
Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture(BINA) were present as
Special Guest.
Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Baten, Department of Environmental Science of
BAU  Delivered his welcome address. Dr. M. Abdus Salam, Director
(Research) of BINA, Prof Dr. Md. Abdul Wahab, Faculty of Fisheries of
BAU, Prof Dr. Md. M. A. Kshem, Faculty of Agriculture of BAU addressed
as Keynote Speaker.
The Book ‘Millennium Mini Encyclopedia & Terminology of Environmental
Science’ was also opened in the seminar.
Meanwhile, a colorful rally & tree plantation program were also held
at BAU Campus on the occasion. Another colorful rally & tree
plantation program were organized by BCL of BAU branch.
Eminent Scientist, Educationist, Students & Teachers of BAU were
participated in the program.
SUST correspondent adds: Shahjalal University of Science and
Technology (SUST), Sylhet held a rally, tree plantation programme and
food campaign  to observe  the  World Environment Day with  the slogan
‘reducing food waste’ on Wednesday.
Campus sources said, Green Explore Society(GES); a  volunteer
organisation of  SUST has brought out the rally at 12.00 p. m from the
library building and parading the main streets of the campus ended at
the front of “E building”. Where the 3 medicinal trees named Horithoki
(Mayrobalan), Amloki (Emblic myrobalan) and Bohera were planted.
United Nations Environmental Programme(UNEP) has supported the
programme.
Redwan Chowdhury; Publicity Secretary (PS) of GES said, “ In our
country only the  environment related organisation, Environmentalists
are aware and working for the environment, we want the collective
consciousness of all people to protect our environment.”
Among others the programmes were attended by the Somsed Noyrin;
Assistant Professor of Geography and Environmental Science department
with students, members of GES, Abdul Karim Kim; General Secretary  of
Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA).
