World Milk Day observed at BAU

Dhaka-The department of Dairy science under the Animal Husbandry faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) celebrated the world milk Day on Saturday with amid much enthusiasm and festivity on the campus.The department chalked out a day-long programme to celebrate the day including colourful procession with types of poster, festoon and placard with the participation of students, teachers and staffs.
The rally was started at around 10:00 am from the Animal Husbandry faculty building, Narayon Chandra Chanda, state minister, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, inaugurated a rally after releasing balloons that marched all important streets on the campus while the teachers, students, officers of the Animal Husbandry faculty took part.
After the rally the department arranged feeding milk programme for the children in the Campus.
Later, the department arranged a seminar titled ‘Produce Milk, Drink Milk, Build Healthy Nation’.
Dairy scientist Prof Dr Nurul Islam of Dairy Science department presented the key note paper in the seminar.
Dr. Md. Ashiqul Islam, head of the dairy science department chaired the seminar in where Mike Robson, FAO representative in Bangladesh, Md. Jakir Hossain, managing director, Bangladesh Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Lt (MILK Vita) and Prof Dr SD Chowdhury, dean of Animal Husbandry faculty attended as the special guests.
Vice-Chancellor of BAU Prof Dr Md. Ali Akbar patronized the seminar.
Speakers at the seminar stressed the activation of national dairy policy and establishment of national dairy development board to make a revolution in the milk production of the country.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an adult should drink at least 250ml milk per day where the average availability of milk in our country is only 122ml.-BAU Correspondent
