Writ for safe food filed with HC

A petition has been filed in the High Court, seeking food security for all in Bangladesh.
Legal Action Bangladesh filed the writ petition on Wednesday.
It said several laws were in place to ensure the production, processing, and marketing of safe food but the authorities were neglectful in their implementation.
The petitioners have sought a rule on why the food secretary should not be directed to form a special body in line with the Safe Food Act 2013.
Section 15 of the Act states ‘a central committee to coordinate safe food management’ can be created to implement the law.
Sections 5 and 7 also mention a regulation body: ‘Bangladesh Safe Food Authority’.
It also pleaded for orders to have the secretary make an independent inquiry committee within seven days, while the rule was being considered.
The petition also urged the court to order the formation of mobile courts in towns and cities during that time.
A news report by Bangla daily ‘Bangladesh Pratidin’ was attached with the petition.
It has named as defendants the secretaries for home, commerce, food, health, industries and law.
The others mentioned are the managing director of Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute (BSTI), Inspector General of Police, the Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.-bdnews24.com
