Young man killed in ‘Narsingfdi DB police custody’

Dhaka – A young man was tortured to death by Detective Branch Police (DB) in custody at Bilashdi area in Narsingdi town, east of capital Dhaka on Thursday at about 11.00 am. He was termed ‘wanted terrorist’.
The deceased was identified as Deen Islam (25) son of Abdur Rahman of East-Bhelanagar area in Narsingdi town. He was also ‘listed terrorist’ of Narsingdi town.According to the doctor, police and victim’s mother DB police led by Sub Inspector Abdul Gaffar raided his Bhelanagr house and arrested him and took him to DB police office said at about 5.30am early in the morning.
Sabia Begum mother of the deceased Deen Islam said SI Abdul Gaffar demanded five lakhs Taka from her. Otherwise SI will kill my son, Sabia claimed.
After a few hours DB police was interrogating him for recovering fire arms. At one stage he (Deen Islam) managed flee from police custody. Police chase him from behind and shouted for help. Local people caught him and after mass beating handed over him to police.
Police rescued him and sent him to Narsingdi district hospital. After examining attending doctor declared him dead.
When contacted Police Super Amena Begum, said that he (Deen Islam) was killed in mass beating. Not police torture.
Deceased mother Sabia Begum said, ‘…my son was tortured to death by DB police who demanded five lakh Taka from me for release of my son.
The SP said Deen Islam was a listed terrorist and he was accused in several cases including two murder, dacoity.
Executive Magistrate rushed to spot and made ‘surathal’ report of the body and sent it to Narsingdi sadar hospital morgue for autopsy .
After receiving the autopsy report the cause of death will be ascertained, police said. – Staff Reporter
