Young Tigers set record whitewashing England U-19 in all 3 formats

Chattogram – A brilliant century by two down batsman Mahmudual Hasan Joy guided the Young Tigers to the landmark of whitewashing England U-19 team in all three formats of cricket beating them by three wickets in the 2nd Youth Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Monday.

Bangladesh U-19 team got off to a good start in the two-match four-day Youth Test series beating the tourists by eight wickets in the first Test at the same venue.

Earlier, the Young Tigers clean swept them in the three-match Youth ODI series 3-0 beating them by five wickets in both the 1st and 2nd ODIs and outplaying them by 63 runs in the 3rd and final one, all at Sheikh Kamal International Stadium in Cox’s Bazar.

Bangladesh U-19 side also clinched the one-off T20 series beating visiting English Youth team by seven wickets at the same venue in Cox’s Bazar.

Chasing a challenging target of 333 runs in the last innings, hosts Bangladesh U-19 Cricket team resumed the 2nd innings Monday morning with an overnight total of 34 for one (requiring 299 runs with nine wickets on the final day) and reached the milestone scoring the match-winner 333 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 93.5 overs, featuring 142 runs in the 4th wicket stand by match hero Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Towhid Hridoy.

Visiting England, having 337 runs in the first innings, declared the 2nd innings for 223 runs for 8 with a hope to win at least a match on the Bangladesh soil featuring a century by Jamie Smith (104), but the match’s best performer Mahmudul Hasan Joy destroyed their intention with his brilliant batting in two successive innings, despite the home team were bundled out cheaply for 228 runs in the first innings.

Number four batsman Joy, who contributed a polished 74 runs in the first innings, hammered a century scoring 114 runs off 224 balls hitting 13 boundaries to be adjudged man of the match while his partner Towhid Hridoy contributed 145-ball 76 runs featuring six fours and one six.

Besides, opener Tanzid Hasan, who was in batting with 28 runs, made a half century contributing run-a-ball 51 with the help of six boundaries, one down Parvez Hossain Emon added another useful 81-ball 37 runs, including three boundaries, while lower order Shahadat Hossain scored 25-ball 20 runs hitting three fours.

AW Finch, Hamidullah Qadri and Al Aldridge claimed two wickets each conceding 60, 61 and 79 runs respectively while LBK Hollman took one for 47 runs.
