Youth gets life term for killing step-mother in C’nawabganj

A court here on Sunday sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for killing his step mother over a trifling matter in 2013.The condemned convict is Suruj Ali, 22, son of Shah-Alam, resident of Jhamadar Para of Sadar upazila.The court also fined him TK 20,000. He will have to serve six months of rigorous imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.District and Sessions Judge Kabita Khanom handed down the verdict against Suruj while acquitting his wife Any Begum of the charge.

According to the prosecution, Minara begum was beaten to death by her step-son Suruj over dividing Lychee on May 27, 2013.

Later, Minara’s daughter Saida Khatun filed a case against Suruj and his wife Any Begum.

After examining the records and ten witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Kabita Khanom handed down the verdict on Sunday. -UNB, Chapainawabganj
