Youth jailed for eve teasing in Gaibandha

A youth was sentenced to imprisonment for one year yesterday by a
mobile court at Rahmatpur village under Sadar upazila of the district
for harassing a housewife.
The accused was identified as Khokon Miah, 30, son of Rafiqul Islam of
the village.
Police said Khokon used to tease Sreemoti Arpana Rani, wife of
Niranjan Chandra Mohanta, of the same village for a long time.
On the day of the incident, Arpana Rani went out of the house to
respond to nature’s call at Tuesday night at around 8 pm; Khokon
patched up the housewife and tried to violate her.
Hearing her screams, the family members and close neighbors rushed in
and caught Khokon and handed over him to the mobile court.
Later, the court led by executive magistrate and assistant
commissioner (Land) M. Hafizur Rahman awarded him the punishment after
examining the witnesses.
Officer in charge of Sadar police station Gopal Chandra Chakrabartee
said the convict was sent to district jail just after the verdict.
Earlier, he was also an accused in a series of criminal cases, he added.
