Chattogram – Hosts Bangladesh U-19 Cricket team need another 299 runs with nine wickets in hand on the 4th and final day on Monday at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here to whitewash touring England U-19 side in the two-match Youth Test series.
Chasing a target of 333 runs, the Young Tigers scored 34 for one at stumps on Day-3.
Replying to England’s first innings total of 337 runs, the Young Tigers resumed the first innings on the 3rd day (Sunday) with overnight total of 194 runs for 6 and were dismissed cheaply for 228 runs in 88 overs.
Two down batsman Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who was in batting with 62 runs, scored
team highest 74 runs off 216 balls, featuring four boundaries while lower order Ruhel Ahmed made 24-ball 11 runs, including two boundaries, for the home side.
Earlier on the 2nd day (Saturday), number seven Shahadat Hossain contributed 111-ball 56 runs featuring six fours and one six, opener Tanzid Hasan scored 51-ball 36 runs while Parvez Hossain Emon made 53-ball 18 runs in the first innings.
KL Aldridge, who claimed two wickets for 37 runs on Saturday, finally grabbed four wickets for 44 runs while GP Balderson captured three wickets for 40 runs.
The visiting English U-19 team opened the 2nd innings in the morning and declared the innings on 223 runs for 8 in 54 overs,featuring a century by one down Jamie Smith.
Jamie Smith, who scored a polished 90 runs in the first innings, hammered a century scoring 104 runs off 106 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes.
Besides, JM Cox (30), GCH Hill (20), LP Goldsworthy (13) and TA Lammonby (12) were other notable contributors for England reaching double figures.
Minhazur Rahman was the most successful among Bangladesh bowlers taking four wickets for 74 runs while Mujakkir Hussain and Asadullah Galib took two wickets each for 50 and 55 runs respectively.
In reply, the Young Tigers opened the 2nd innings in the late afternoon and scored 34 for the loss of the Amith Hasan (6) wicket in 7.3 overs when the bails were drawn for the 3rd day (Sunday) to trail by 298 runs.
