Youth tries to commit suicide in city police custody

Dhaka – A youth, accused in a murder case of a former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader, allegedly attempted to commit suicide by slitting his throat in police custody in the city on Wednesday.
Police said Motiur Rahman Ripon tried to take his own life by cutting his throat with an old blade at Ramna Police Station in the afternoon. Later, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as he was bleeding profusely.Contacted, Officer-in-charge of Ramna police station Mosiur Rahman said they earlier arrested Ripon in connection with the murder case and took him on a three-day remand which was supposed to end on Thursday.
The OC said they are carrying out investigation to confirm how Ripon got the blade.
Ripon was made accused in the killing case of Mahbubur Rahman Rana, former senior vice-president of Ramna thana unit BCL.
Rana was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in the city’s Moghbazar area on January 23. – UNB
