‘Yuri Gagarin’s flight to the Outer Space’ remembered

To mark the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s flight to the Outer Space, a programme was held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (RCSC) in the city’s Dhanmondi area recently.Beginning with January 2011 Cultural Department of Russian Embassy in Bangladesh is conducting a series of events dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Yury Gagarin’s flight to the Outer Space.
Animated film ‘Belka and Strelka – Star Dogs’ was shown at various venues within the 4th Dhaka International Children’s Film Festival. Photo exhibition titled ‘Our Gagarin’ is going on at the Institute of Modern Languages in Dhaka and in Jahangirnagar University in Savar.
Since the beginning of the year Cultural Department of Russian Embassy in Bangladesh regularly holds lectures, seminars and workshops with students at the festival ‘Gagarinfest’ organised jointly with the Bangladesh Astronomical Association at the Russian Center for Science in Dhaka.
On April 10, on the eve of the flight of Yury Gagarin, a comprehensive evening (public meeting, exhibition ‘History of space exploration’, children’s drawing competition, a film show ‘Belka and Strelka – Star Dogs’ dedicated to this remarkable event took place in the RCSC in Dhaka.
The event was attended by over 200 people – members of the Bangladesh-Russia friendship Society and the Bangladesh Astronomical Association, the graduates of Russian universities, and fellow citizens of the CIS countries who are domiciled in the country.
The evening was inaugurated by Architect Yeafesh Osman, State Minister for Science and ICT, who paid tribute to the memory of Yury Gagarin as the first man to fly to the outer space.
The State Minister noted that the achievement of Yury Gagarin belongs not only Russia but to all of mankind, recited his own poems dedicated to Yury Gagarin, his own compositions. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh GP Trotsenko noted the rapidly growing cooperation between Russia and Bangladesh in the field of modern technologies in preparation for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Bangladesh by Rosatom.
Sayed Shamsul Haq, President of Bangladesh-Russia Friendship Society appeared as Guest of Honour, Yury I Makarov, First Secretary and Head of the Cultural Department of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Bangladesh, Mash hu rul Amin, General Secretary of Bangladesh Astronomical Association and Scientist Dr Zahid Hossain Prodhan, Managing Director of Arcadia Property Development Ltd, were also present at the event.
