Govt ready to hold dialogue: FM

Foreign minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday said the government is still ready to hold dialogue despite of opposition Chief Khaleda Zia’s ‘provocation’ for army intervention.

The foreign minister came up with the assertion while addressing a seminar on ‘Role of mass people during liberation war’ at a city hall on Wednesday.

Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) organized the seminar.

She said, “Khaleda Zia has provoked the army to intervene country’s politics. Earlier, she wrote a number of articles in different foreign newspapers in order to instigate the international community against the incumbent government.”

Dipu Moni added, “Despite of her those ill steps, the incumbent government is ready to sit with her as ruling Awami League believes in democracy.”

Professor Dr Syed Anwar Hossain was present at the seminar as the special guest while director of BIISS Research Cell Shahin Afroz presented the keynote paper.

In her keynote paper, Shahin Afroz mentioned thatBangladeshlost 30 lakh people during the liberation war in 1971.

Suddenly Professor Anwar opposed the information and said some 600,000 to 1,000,000 people died during the nine-month long liberation war.

He added: “When I was the DG ofBanglaAcademy, a survey was conducted in this regard under my supervision and I had submitted all reports to the ministry of liberation war affairs.”

Mentioning that he also completed a list containing the name of Razakars, he asked, “Where is the list now? Why is it not being published?”

At one stage, the speakers engaged in an argument on the issue whether the war was a liberation war or freedom fight.

In response, the minister said, “We should not talk on issues, those were settled earlier.” banglanews24.com
