Mercury dips to 8.8˚C in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi Met office recorded the lowest temperature of the

district and the year as 8.8-degree Celsius on Wednesday.

Rajshahi Met office Acting Officer Ashraful Islam told banglanews that

earlier the lowest temperature was recorded at 9.6 degree C on

December 22. The temperature was uprising later this.

Last on Tuesday, the lowest temperature was 12.1-degree C. The normal

lives of the district disrupted due to cold wave and falling of

temperature. Heavy cold is being felt due to increase of moisture in

air.

On Wednesday morning, the increase of moisture in air was 92 percent.

At around 3:00pm, it decreased to 76 percent. The temperature can also

decrease, he added.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Hannan told banglanews that they

have sent several letters to the government and Ministry of Disaster

Management and Relief demanding 25 thousand blankets.

Earlier, we have distributed 5000 blankets among the poor people, he added.

Meanwhile, Cold related complexities and cold wave disrupted the

normal life of people in the district.

Three people, including two children, died within 24 hours in the district.

The deceased were identified as Baby, 2-day, Babu, 1-day, and Rohima

Bewa, 55, of the district.

Kurigram Sadar Hospital Resident Officer (RMO) Dr Nazrul Islam told

banglanews that 39 people died in this month due to cold related

diseases.

Kurigram Sadar Hospital Child Specialist Dr Moktar Ali told banglanews

that cold wave and the unawareness of mothers caused death of their

child.
