People will vote AL to power again, believes PM

Dhaka, Sept 15 – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said she believes that the people will vote Awami League to power again in the next election for the sake of continuation of the development trend.“I believe that the people of Bangladesh will make Awami League victorious by voting in favour of ‘boat’ symbol in the next election too and let the development trend continue,” she said while addressing the first meeting of the 11th national election conducting committee of the Awami League.
The meeting was started with the Committee chairman Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her official residence Ganobhaban in the evening.
The Prime Minister said Awami League has been able to keep up its popularity, despite remaining in power for the two consecutive terms, which she termed a rare instance.
She said it was possible for Awami League to keep up public confidence and trust as it is working truly for the development of the countrymen and reached the benefit of the development to the village and grassroots level.
Noting that the people were able to cast their votes in every election, she said but those who won’t be able to win the polls are not satisfied and they think someone will come up to put them in power.
Apparently pointing at any possible army intervention in power, Sheikh Hasina said there is no benefit in waiting with such hope as there is no such tendency there anymore.
The Prime Minister said there was frantic effort to resist the 2014 national election, but the people reelected Awami League by casting their votes and resisting BNP-Jamaat.
“Since Awami League has been in power for nine and a half consecutive years, now the development Bangladesh achieved is visible to all. It is proved now that if Awami League remains in power, the country gains development,” she said.
Sheikh Hasina said her government is working in a planned way and taking Bangladesh forward in different socio-economic indexes including poverty reduction, health, education and power.
“The people are now in peace and can lead their lifestyle in a festive mood,” she said adding that the next election is very important to keep up the continuation of the development trend.
Mentioning that the BNP-Jamaat is spreading propaganda, the Prime Minister said BNP resorted to falsehood over its secretary general’s visit to the USA as it claimed the UN Secretary-General invited him.
“There is no limit of falsehood and deception,” she said adding that it was learnt that he (Fakhrul Islam) also met the UN Secretary General, though the latter was in Ghana to attend the funeral of Kofi Anan.
She said an assistant secretary general of the United Nations confirmed that the UN Secretary-General did not invite Fakhrul rather the BNP leaders sought appointment.
Hasina said BNP appointed lobbyists in the USA as they have huge money.
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman leads a luxurious life in the UK and he has three cars there, said the Prime Minister adding that her younger sister Sheikh Rehana still uses public buses in the UK.
The Prime Minister urged the countrymen to be alert always against those who destroyed, stole and syphoned the country’s property off Bangladesh, embezzled the money of orphans, killed the people through arson attacks as they will destroy the country.
She said Awami League has huge popularity. “The people have confidence and trust that they will be in peace, they will see their economic development and their good lifestyle if Awami League remains in power.” – UNB
