Five houses were gutted and an elderly woman was killed in a fire at Nitira village under Arial-Baligaon union in Tongibari of the district today, police said.Twelve people were injured seriously while dousing the blaze. Locals, however, controlled the flames before the arrival of fire service personnel at the scene.Officer-in-charge of Tongibari police station Abdul Malek said the fire was originated from an electric short circuit of one Rahim Master’s house in the area and engulfed the adjacent houses.During the fire, Rahim Master’s mother Razia Begum, 90, was sleeping in the house.
