Man hurt in crude bomb blast dies in city

A man who received burns after an explosion while making crude bombs at Khaskandi village in Sadar upazila on Thursday died from his wounds at a hospital in Dhaka city early Saturday.The deceased was identified as Jewel, 25, a resident of the village.Additional Superintendent of Police ADM Masud Hossain of Munshiganj said Jewel succumbed to his injuries around 6:30 am at City Hospital in the capital early this (Saturday) morning.Earlier, four people were seriously injured in an explosion reportedly while making crude bombs at a house at Khaskandi village in Sadar upazila on Thursday night.Police arrested two of the injured—Jewel, 25, and Abu Taher Kawsar, 27 — from Muktarpur Bridge area while they were being whisked off by locals to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.The rest two were taking treatment secretly fearing police hassle, said locals.Jewel and Kawsar had been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital since their arrest, said Masud Hossain .On Friday night, Jewel was shifted to City Hospital under police escort where he succumbed to his injuries early in the morning, he added.Abul Khair, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said the bombs were being made to avenge an attack on Selim’s men by supporters of Shakil Khan over establishing dominance in the area.Kawsar had been hired from neighbouring Amghata village to make the crude bombs at Selim’s house at Khaskandi village, he said. -UNB, Munshiganj
