10 fishermen rescued from dacoits’ den in Bhola

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive rescued 10 fishermen
busting a den of pirates at Kalamer Char in Manpura upazila of on
Sunday noon, 12 hours after their abduction.
Lieutenant Rakibul Hasan, operation officer of the Coast Guard (South
Zone), said on information that a gang of pirates kidnapped 18
fishermen along with two trawlers from the Meghna River during fishing
on Saturday night, their two separate teams conducted a daylong drive
in the river.
Later, a team managed to rescue the 10 fishermen from confinement at
Kalamer Char at noon, added Rakibul.
Another team of the Coast Guard was still trying to rescue the rest
fishermen in the char area.
Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the hoodlums opened fire on
them, forcing them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight around
4:00pm.
Around 22 gunshots were traded during the gunfight. The dacoits at one
stage managed to flee the scene. No casualty was reported. -UNB, Bhola
