10 held over Gazipur ATM booth looting

Dhaka – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested 10 suspected robbers, including prime accused Habib alias Rubel, in connection with the snatching of Tk1.84 crore from an ATM booth of Dutch-Bangla Bank in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur district on March 3, from different places of Gazipur and Dhaka on Tuesday night.Besides, the elite force recovered Tk 9.4 lakh, two pistols and some ammunition from their possessions.
Others arrestees are—Shahadat, 24, Ismail, 28, Md Shahidul Islam alias Shahid, 36, Md Farid, 33, Delwar alias Delu, 28, Ibrahim, 23, Nazrul Islam alias Sabuz, 23, Alamgir Hossain alias Oanjo Molla, 49, and Hasan Mir, 34.
Briefing reporters at Rab headquarters, director (Legal and Media wing) Mufti Mahmood Khan said the robbers gang looted the money from the ATM booth while refilling the money in a planned way.
The alleged gangster took 3-4 minutes to complete their looting process. When 7-8 employees of the security agency “ Money Plant Link private Ltd” were about to refill money on the ATM booth, the roobers stormed on them and looted the money kept inside two tank, the director (media) said.
He said Rulel was going to Joydebpur to give Tk 9 lakh to Shahid as part of portion of the looted money on Tuesday night. When he reached near Jamiruddin market at around 11:00 pm, a Rab check post challenged him and arrested him, Mofti Mahmood said.
Accrediting to his statement, the elite force arrested nine other accomplices, who were involved in the ATM booth money looting, he added.
Earlier early hours of on March 3, miscreants snatched two trunks loaded with Tk1.84 crore from the ATM booth of Dutch-Bangla Bank in Shafipur area of Kaliakoir upazila when some employees of ‘Money Plant’ company were unloading trunks from their microbus for reloading the booth with cash. – News Desk
