Discussion on citizen charter held at RU

Speakers emphasised at a discussion at the Rajshahi University (RU) on Wednesday that simplicity of service delivery procedure, convenience of hosting facilities and service delivery perimeters, courtesy, politeness of service delivery agent’s, provision for fault-reporting and rectification essentials ensuring a good citizen charter.When that happens, the Citizens’ Charter would become a valuable instrument to raise accountability and assure the quality of delivery of basic public services especially of those that are devolved to local government units.
The experts said these in an interactive discussion title “Citizen Charter: A Tool for Accountability of State Administration” at the RU School & College premise. Human rights and civic educational organisation Change Makers organised the programme supported by The American Centre, US Embassy, Dhaka.
RU registrar Prof. Md. Entajul Haque was the chief guest while college Principal Mohammed Ali presided over the function. Change Makers President Tanveer Siddiqi Adv conducted it.
Experts again underscored that the people should work together to be build a powerful local government. Because it’s have greater flexibility and more elbow room in finances than the national government.
Besides, they also discussed the issues of the right to information law, human rights, fundamental rights, the Constitution, parliament, democracy, good governance and civic responsibility in the program.
